The Seton Hall Pirates will head to Washington DC and face the Georgetown Hoyas in Big East play from the Capital One Arena on FS1. Georgetown leads the all-time series 60-53, but Seton Hall has won the last three meetings.

Seton Hall moved to 8-8 after beating Butler at home. The Pirates to Marquette in Milwaukee. The Pirates have also been blitzed by Big East play, dropping their third straight after the 14-point loss to the Golden Eagles. Seton Hall is scoring 71.6 points per game, while allowing 64.2 ppg, and shooting 43.1% from the floor.

Seton Hall has jumped out to a 2-4 start in conference play, and a win here feels very necessary. It’s been a collective effort so far, with first-year head coach Shaheen Holloway shifting the lineup often early on. Clemson transfer Al-Amir Dawes leads SHU in scoring (11.1), and he scored 22 points in the win over St. John’s. Senior forward Tyrese Samuel leads the Pirates in boards at 6.4 rpg, while scoring 11.2 ppg.

Georgetown dropped to 5-12 after losing to Marquette in Milwaukee. The Hoyas took a small lead into the break, but they were blitzed by the Golden Eagles for 61 second half points en route to a 22-point loss. Georgetown is scoring 75.1 points per game, while allowing 77.5 ppg, and shooting 45.1% from the field.

Georgetown is a lost cause right now. The start of Big East play reeks of last season, and the hits do not stop coming in this conference. The arrival of the backcourt trio of Primo Spears (Duquense), Brandon Murray (LSU), and Jay Heath (ASU) haven’t been able to change the fortunes in DC this year. Spears had back-to-back 22-point outings versus Xavier and Syracuse, and he leads GT in scoring (15.6) and assists (5.3). Murray went off for a career-high 29 points versus DePaul, and he’s up to 15.1 ppg. Heath dropped 25 points in the win over in-state foe UMBC, and he’s averaging 13.4 ppg. Qudus Wahab returned after one season at Maryland, and he leads the Hoyas in rebounding (7.6), while scoring 10.51 ppg.

Seton Hall is 9-7 against the spread this season, with a 8-7-1 over/under record. Georgetown is 5-12 ATS this year, with a 8-7 o/u record.

We’ve sadly reached the point where we know what can go wrong for Georgetown, will indeed go wrong. The Big East Tournament victory feels like a distant, ancient memory, and they’ve really dropped the ball in the past 48 months. Seton Hall has a good chance of covering, but there’s an even higher chance of a storm of points coming here, as the Hoyas have allowed 80 points or more in six of their last seven games.
