The Colorado Buffaloes will head out to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Cardinal this Thursday from the Maples Pavilion on ESPN. Stanford and Colorado have faced off 20 times since 2007, with the Buffaloes holding a 14-6 series lead after winning the last four matchups.
Colorado improved to 8-5 after beating Southern Utah in Boulder. The Buffaloes and Thunderbirds found themselves in a shootout, and the host would pull away in the second half to win their fourth game in a row. Colorado is scoring 76.4 points per game, while allowing 69.2 ppg, and shooting 45.8% from the floor.
Colorado has picked things up heading into Pac-12 play, and KJ Simpson has been a huge part of that. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 27 points in the win over arch rival Colorado State, and he leads CU in scoring (17.2) and assists (3.7). Tristan Da Silva is playing at a high rate as well, scoring 86 points during this four-game stretch, bringing his season numbers to 14.9 ppg and 5.2 rpg.
Stanford moved to 5-7 after defeating Loyola Chicago in Santa Cruz. The Cardinal got a much needed quality win as they enter conference play, jumping out to a big halftime lead, and holding on to cover the five-point spread. Stanford scores 68.2 points per game, while allowing 63.8 ppg and shooting 43.8% from the field.
It’s been a balanced effort for a veteran Stanford team early on. Four-year starter Spencer Jones leads the team in scoring (10.8) after reaching double figures in five of the last six games. Davidson transfer Michael Jones scored a game-high 17 points against Texas, and he’s averaging 10.5 ppg. Sophomore forward Harrison Ingram (9.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.1 apg) paced the team with 15 points last time out versus Loyola.
Colorado is 5-8 against the spread this season, with a 7-6 over/under record. Stanford is 6-6 ATS this year, with a 5-7 o/u record.
Colorado’s got the momentum to go into the palm trees and walk away with a fifth straight victory. The Buffaloes are clicking at a high level offensively, and Stanford may have a tough time scoring at the rate CU has. The Cardinal still represent an experienced, well-coached team, so with the total sitting a bit high for a conference matchup, let’s test these schools here. Take the under for the Colorado/Stanford matchup Thursday.
