The Wyoming Cowboys will travel down to the valley and face the Fresno State Bulldogs in Mountain West action this Wednesday night from the Save Mart Center on CBSS.
Wyoming dropped to 5-7 after losing to St. Mary’s in the Jerry Coangelo Classic. The Cowboys struggled to compete against respectable competition again, and they’ll walk into MWC play lacking a strong non-conference win. Wyoming is scoring 73.6 points per game, while allowing 69.6 ppg, and shooting 44.4% from the field.
Hunter Maldonado will enter his 140th game in a Wyoming uniform here Wednesday night. The six-year starter bleeds Cowboy basketball, and they will need a sound performance from him here against a stingy Fresno defense. Maldonado is averaging 12.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and 3.6 apg. He has a special running mate in Noah Reynolds, who scored 20 or more in each of the past five games, and now leads the Cowboys in scoring at 14.7 ppg.
Fresno State moved to 4-7 after taking down in-state foe CSU Bakersfield on the road. The Bulldogs took the two-hour trip and brought the clamps out, holding the Roadrunners to a season-low 48 points. Fresno is scoring 62.1 points per game, while allowing ppg, and shooting 41.7% from the floor.
Fresno has struggled to put the ball in the basket this season, as offense has been hard to come by. The Bulldogs may even be limping into one with leading scorer Isaih Moore, who left the Bakersfield game earlier. Moore’s status post-holiday should be monitored when approaching this one. Production has been scarce outside of Moore, but senior point guard Isaiah Hill did score 17 points in the win over Bakersfield.
Wyoming is 3-7-1 against the spread this season, with a 2-8 over/under record. Fresno is 2-8 ATS this year, with a 2-8 o/u record.
Isaih Moore’s status will be a massive factor when approaching this MWC matchup. Wyoming looks mighty appealing as road underdogs if Moore misses this game, while the under looks even more enticing. The Cowboys have been a tight end and limited offensively, while Fresno has thrived defensively, so look for a hard-fought, low-scoring duel. Take the under for this Mountain West Conference battle.
