Bellarmine’s got a good mix of youth and experience this season. True freshman Peter Suder has come out firing with a pair of 22-point outings, and he leads the Knights in scoring (12.5). Senior guards Bash Wieland and Garrett Tipton are thriving with more playing time, and the former paced the team with 16 points in the Clemson game. Fellow senior guard Juston Betz led the team in rebounding last season, and he’s on-pace to do so again with 5.3 rpg thus far.
UCLA improved to 4-2 after defeating in-state foe Pepperdine at home. The Bruins got back into the win column in assertive fashion, hanging a season-high 100 points in the win over the Waves. UCLA. is scoring 74.0 points per game, while shooting 43.1% from the field, and 36.5% from three.
There’s no more Johnny Juzang for UCLA but mainstay Jaime remains in the fold. The veteran Swiss Army knife has done a little bit of everything early on for the Bruins, posting a nice line of 15.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 3.0 apg. Tyger Campbell also returned and after pacing the team 22 versus Illinois, he’s averaging 14.7 ppg and a team-lead 4.2 apg. Jaylen Clark has thrived in a bigger role this year, leading the Bruins in scoring (15.7) and rebounding (7.7).
This late-November clash will give UCLA one final tune-up before a light patch of Pac-12 action to kick off conference play. Despite losses to Illinois and Baylor, the Bruins have functioned well, could end being the team to beat out West this season. Just as they punished Pepperdine at the Pauley on Wednesday, UCLA can kick this week off by spanking Bellarmine. Trust UCLA to cover at home here.
