The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will head to Elmont to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies from UBS Arena on ESPN+.

Notre Dame improved to 5-0 after a home win over Bowling Green on Tuesday. The Falcons stuck with the Fighting Irish early, but ND managed to pull away in the second half and cover the 15-point spread on the head. Notre Dame is scoring 79.2 points per game, while shooting 51.9% from the floor, and 38.9% from three.

Mike Breen has rolled with his starting five heavy in the early going. Fifth-year seniors Dane Goodwin and Nick Laszewski have returned in peak form. Laszewski has been a force in the middle, double-doubling in the first three games, and posting team leads in scoring (19.6) and rebounding (8.8). Goodwin hit six threes in the win over Lipscomb, and he’s second on ND with 15.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg. True freshman JJ Starling paced the team with 23 points in the win over BGSU, improving his average to 14.2 ppg. Veterans Cormac Ryan (10.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg) and Trey Wertz (13.2 ppg, 4.0 apg) round out the lineup.

St. Bonaventure is 3-2 after a win over Southern Indiana at home. The Bonnies took care of business to jump back above .500 in time for their biggest non-conference bout of the season. St. Bonaventure is scoring 74.8 points per game, while shooting 45.4% from the field, and 36.3% from deep.

Mark Schmidt lost all five members of his memorable two-year starting lineup, but his team is beginning to find their identity. Daryl Banks III came over from the Cinderella story at St. Peter’s, and he’s been their guy early on. Banks exploded for a career-high 34 points in the win over BGSU, and he leads the team with 19.2 ppg. Holy Cross transfer Kyrell Luc (16.1 ppg, 6.2 apg. 4.0 rpg) has matched his energy in the backcourt, while freshman forward Yann Farrell has reached double figures in each of the past three games.

Notre Dame 1-3 against the spread this season, with a 2-2 over/under record. St. Bonaventure is 3-1 ATS this year, with a 2-2 o/u record.

It would have been something if these two teams could have crossed paths last season with the lineup Mark Schmidt had in place, and how identical Mike Breen has been trusting his guns with his starting five so strong early on.

Notre Dame has checked most of the boxes during the first few weeks of action, but this will mark their first time away from South Bend, and St. Bonaventure will represent the toughest team they’ve faced so far. The Fighting Irish may prevail here, but the Bonnies have a good chance of putting another scare on them and capitalizing on the points. Spot St. Bonaventure the points Friday.
