The CSU Northridge Matadors and the Central Michigan Chippewas will face off at the So Cal Challenge in San Juan this Wednesday evening.
CSU Northridge is 1-3 after a loss to Tennessee State on Monday night. The Matadors competed in another closely contested bout against the Tigers in Round 1, and dropped their third straight game, 74-73. CSUN is scoring 70.3 points per game, while shooting 43.2% from the field, and 29.9% from deep.
Dionte Bostick is thriving in a lead role after coming over from Murray State. The 6’2 guard went for a career-high 31 points in the lost to Utah Tech, and he nearly led CSUN to a Round 1 victory with 24 points last time out. Bostick leads team in scoring (17.8), while his running mate Atin Wright is averaging 12.5 ppg. Fifth-year senior Onyi Eyisi mans the middle, and leads the Matadors in rebounding (8.3).
Central Michigan dropped to 1-3 after a loss to High Point on Monday evening. The Chippewas blew a halftime lead and eventually fell to the Crusaders by one point. CMU is scoring 69.1 points per game, while shooting 40.3% from the floor, and 28.7% from deep.
Central Michigan has dealt with injury blows early, and it may hinder them again here. CMU went into battle without two of their top scorers in Kevin Miller (18.7) and Marcus Harding (11.0). The Chippewas will likely play through Jesse Zarzuela and Brian Taylor again here, who combined for 31 points in the loss to HPU.
CSUN is 1-2 against the spread this season, with a 3-0 over/under record. CMU is 3-1 ATS this year, with a 0-4 o/u record.
Both teams enter this consolation round on heels of painful one-point losses, so someone will indeed find some form of redemption Wednesday night. CSUN has provided a lot of fight early on, and after coming up short three straight times, I think they finally cross the finish line here. The backcourt tandem of Bostick and Wright should give an undermanned CMU team some trouble here. The Matadors reside in Southern Cal, so show them some and take CSU-Northridge’s ML here. Give the under a look as well with both teams showing limitations on the offensive end.
