The North Dakota Fighting Hawks will travel to Omaha and take on the number nine-ranked Creighton Blue Jays from the CHI Health Center on FS1. These two midwestern schools haven’t faced off since 2017, but Creighton leads the all-time series 10-3.

North Dakota opened their season with a win over Incarnate Word in San Antonio. The Fighting Hawks pulled away from the Cardinals late in the second half to hop in the win column and cover the two-point spread. Paul Sather's team only shot 42% from the field, and went just 5/20 from deep, but they defended at a high level in crunch time and did enough to cross the finish line.

UND had to replace a lot of production, and they got a collective effort from both their youth and veterans in game one. B.J. Omot led the team in attempts, and the 6’8 freshman figures to have a big role in the lineup going forward. Omot scored 11 points, while fellow freshman Elijah Brooks added nine points and seven boards. Tsotne Tsartsidze mans the middle alongside Omot in the front court, and he added seven points and seven rebounds in the win over IW. Matt Norman was the returning leading scorer, and he scored a team-lead 14 points and hit three treys off the bench on Monday.

Creighton picked up a win over St. Thomas (MN) at home in the first contest of the season. The Bluejays overcame a cold shooting night, and prevailed in their home opener, but failed to cover the lofty day one 25-point margin. Greg McDermott’s team only shot 39.4%, and went 8/34 from deep, but they hit big shots when they needed to in the second half. A 14-0 run would put things away for the Jays.

Arthur Kaluma looks ready to take on a bigger role offensively after pacing the the Jays in scoring against St. Thomas with 17 points. Baylor Scheierman brought his well-rounded game over from South Dakota State, and it’s an instant fit for Creighton. The Fighting Hawks know Scheierman pretty well, but he should follow up his season-opening double-double nicely here.  Sophomores Ryan Nembhard (9 pts, 5 ast) and Trent Alexander (12 pts, 5-11) returned to their starting positions, as did big man Ryan Kalkbrenner. Big Kalk nearly recorded a double-double and his size should give a smaller UND team some trouble. Mason Miller, son of former NBA champ Mike, added eight points off of the pine, and hit a pair of three in the all too familiar #13.

North Dakota went 10-19 against the spread last season, with a 14-15 over/under record. Creighton went 19-14-2 ATS last year, with a 13-21-1 o/u record. The Under is 18-6 in Creighton's last 24 home games. The Under is 5-0 in North Dakota's last 5 road games.

Creighton had the shake off some rust in game one, but they should be a lot sharper for this contest. This is one of the deepest teams Greg McDermott has ever had, and they’re real contenders in the Big East Conference. The Bluejays come into this Wednesday nite bout with a noticeable size, skill, and depth advantage, and if they come out sharper, and keep their foot on the gas, they can overwhelm the visitors on both sides of the ball.

I like Creighton making things right in game two, but the margin feels a bit steep here. Trust the under trend with both midwestern schools here, and take the under.
