The Providence Friars and Kansas Jayhawks face off on Friday in a college basketball showdown in the Sweet 16 at the United Center.
Kansas comes into this game with a 30-6 record overall and they have won seven games in a row. In the last game against Creighton, they were tested and struggled to defend against the three-point shot, but they made the winning plays late and were able to win 79-72. On the season, Kansas is averaging 78.7 points while their defense is giving up 67.9 points per game. Ochai Agbaji has been the top player for Kansas this year averaging 19.3 points while shooting 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep. There are four different players that are averaging at least 10 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Providence Friars who sit with a 27-5 record overall and they have gone 19-13 against the spread. In the first game of the tournament they beat South Dakota State 66-57 and in the last game against Richmond they won 79-51. There were many who believed they would struggle against South Dakota State, and it was close but they pulled away late. Providence is averaging 71.8 points per game while their defense is giving up 66.2 points per game. Center Nate Watson has been the top player for Providence averaging 13.5 points while shooting 55.5 percent from the field.
Providence is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games as an underdog. The under is 4-0 in Kansas last four games following an against the spread loss. Kansas is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. Kansas is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games played on Friday.
Kansas is the better team and they have done a good job of covering spreads during the last month. I expect Providence’s offense is going to struggle against the Kansas defense, and that will be the difference as the Jayhawks get the job done. Back Kansas against the spread. In terms of the total it's going to be a slower paced game and the under is going to cash.
