The Baylor Bears and North Carolina Tar Heels face off on Saturday in a Round of 32 college basketball showdown at Dickies Arena.
Baylor comes into this game with a 27-6 record overall and they have won six of their last seven games. On Thursday, Baylor faced off with Norfolk State and there was very little trouble, as they were able to win 85-49. Baylor was led by Matthew Mayer who finished with 22 points and six rebounds. Baylor is averaging 76.5 points while their defense is giving up 63.6 points per game. One big issue for Baylor in this game could be the absence of LJ Cryer who is still sitting out with an injury. Cryer is averaging 13./5 points per game. James Akinjo is having a big season averaging 13.5 points while shooting 38.9 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from the field. In this game, Baylor is going to need the defense to be good. Baylor has a strong offense, but slowing down the Tar Heels defense is going to be key.
On the other side of this matchup is the North Carolina Tar Heels who sit with a 25-9 record overall and they have won seven of their last eight games. On Thursday against the Marquette Golden Eagles the offense was elite scoring 95 points and that led to the 32 point victory. This is a North Carolina team that is strong scoring and there is no doubt they are going to try and run up the score in this game. Armando Barcot has been the top player for North Carolina averaging 16.5 points while shooting 69.5 percent from the field. There are four different players that are averaging at least 13.3 points per game. The Tar Heels are averaging 77.5 points while their defense is giving up 71.7 points per game.
The injury to LJ Cryer didn’t really hurt them in the first game of the NCAA Tournament, but this is a much bigger test going against North Carolina. The Tar Heels are an elite offensive team, and they are going to have no issue running up the score. It might not be enough to win the game, but they will cover the spread.
