The Creighton Bluejays and Kansas Jayhawks face off on Saturday in the Round of 32 college basketball showdown at Dickies Arena.
The Creighton Bluejays come into this game with a 23-11 record and it has been a next man up mentality the last few weeks. On Thursday, Creighton faced off with San Diego State, and they were down most of the game until the last couple of minutes they were able to climb back into the game. In overtime, Creighton outscored San Diego State to win 72-69. The bad news for Creighton is Ryan Kalkbrenner was injured and isn’t expected to play in this game. Creighton is averaging 69 points while their defense is giving up 65.9 points per game. Ryan Hawkins has been the top player for Creighton averaging 13.9 points while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from behind the three point line.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kansas Jayhawks who sit with a 29-6 record overall and they had very little issue beating Texas Southern in the first game. Kansas is averaging 78.6 points while their defense is giving up 68.1 points per game. Ochai Agbaji has been the top player for Kansas all season averaging 19.7 points while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from the field. Remy Martin has been banged up much of the season, but he has found a ton of success starting with the Big 12 tournament and they need him to be lights out in this game.
Kansas is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite. Creighton is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games in the NCAA Tournament as underdogs. Kansas is 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall.
The injuries for Creighton are a problem, and without Kalkbrenner, I just don’t think they have the depth to keep this game close. I expect Kansas is going to have another strong defensive output, and Creighton is going to have issues scoring. Look for Kansas to score close to 80 points and they will cover the spread.
