Texas A&M faces Auburn on Friday, March 11th, 2022 at Amalie Arena for a college basketball SEC tournament matchup.
Texas A&M defeated Florida by the final score of 83-80 in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament. The Aggies needed overtime after blowing a lead late, but a clutch buzzer-beating three-pointer in OT gave Texas A&M the win and a chance to earn the ultimate resume booster with a win here in the quarterfinals. Texas A&M started the day as a Next Four Out team according to ESPN, but with the win over Florida, the Aggies' chances of making the tourney were aided. Texas A&M's leading scorer is G Quenton Jackson, who has scored 14.5 points per game for the Aggies. F Henry Coleman III leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.2 and G Marcus Williams leads the team in assists per game with 3.4. Texas A&M as a team has scored 73.1 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.4% clip from the field. Texas A&M has also allowed 66.7 points per game to its opponents as well.
Auburn ended its regular season with a win over South Carolina at home by the final score of 82-71. Auburn did not cover the large spread in that one as the home favorite, but it was an important win for the Tigers, nonetheless, as Auburn did not want to lose two of its last three games down the stretch and limp into postseason play. Auburn is ranked fourth in the nation, owns a very impressive 27-4 overall record, a 15-3 conference record, and a 19-11-1 against the spread record as well. Auburn's leading scorer is F Jabari Smith, who has scored 17.1 points per game for the Tigers. Auburn as a team has scored 79.3 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.4% clip from the field. Auburn has also allowed 67.0 points per game to its opponents.
Auburn is a 9-point favorite and the total is set at 139.5. If Texas A&M had some rest after its overtime performance, I may consider taking the Aggies and the points, but the one thing you cannot be against Auburn is fatigued in any way. Auburn's offense is too much for Texas A&M to handle here and although the Aggies earned the big win on Thursday, I think they will be sweating it out until Selection Sunday after a loss on Friday afternoon.
