The Coppin State Eagles and NC Central Eagles face off on Friday in a college basketball showdown at the Norfolk Scope. When these two teams faced off on February 14th it was North Carolina Central that won 77-74.
Kris Monroe was the top player for NC Central scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mike Hood was the top player for Coppin State scoring 17 points.
Coppin State have struggled this season sitting with an 8-22 record overall but they are coming off a win in their last game. Coppin State faced off with Howard in the first game of the tournament, and it was a close battle, but they were able to win by two points. Two games ago against Morgan State the defense only gave up 63 points, but the offense only scored 59 points. Coppin State is averaging 66.9 points while their defense is giving up 74.8 points per game. Nendah Tarke has been the top player this season for Coppin State averaging 13.2 points while shooting 36.1 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from behind the three point line.
On the other side of this matchup is the NC Central Eagles who sit with a 16-14 record overall and they have won two games in a row. On Thursday, NC Central faced off with Maryland Eastern Shore, and it was NC Central that won 68-56. They outscored them 38-31 in the second half, and that was enough to secure the victory. North Carolina Central comes into this game averaging 72.9 points while their defense is giving up 68.4 points per game. Justin Wright has been the top player for NC Central averaging 13.7 points while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from behind the three point line.
NC Central is the better team, and I just don’t see Coppin State keeping up. Coppin State is averaging only 66.9 points per game. And their offense is going to struggle to score against the Eagles. Back NC Central to come away with the cover of the spread.
