UC Riverside faces Hawaii on Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at the Dollar Loan Center for a college basketball Big West tournament matchup.
UC Riverside ended the regular season in entertaining fashion as two of its last three games went to overtime. Unfortunately for the Highlanders, they lost both of those overtime battles (one to UCSB and the other to Long Beach State), but UC Riverside still finished the regular season with a strong 16-11 overall record and a 9-6 Big West record as well. UC Riverside’s leading scorer is G Zyon Pullin, who has scored 14.0 points per game and has earned 4.3 assists per game as well. UC Riverside as a team has scored 66.6 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.4% clip from the field as well. UC Riverside has also allowed 63.6 points per game to its opponents.
Hawaii is coming off a strong performance against Cal-State Northridge in its regular-season finale with an 84-62 win. Hawaii won three of its last four games down the stretch this season and is now 10-5 in Big West play and 16-10 overall on the year. Hawaii, like UC Riverside, focuses its game on the defensive end where the Rainbow Warriors are only allowing 64.3 points per game to their opponents. Hawaii’s offense is a bit more productive than Riverside’s, as Hawaii is scoring just under 70.0 points per game at 69.8. Hawaii’s leading scorer this season is its star guard in Noel Coleman, who averaged 14.8 points per game this season. Hawaii lost to UC Riverside in the only meeting between the two teams this season in a 64-59 contest at UC Riverside.
UC Riverside is a 1.5-point favorite and the total is set at 126.5. I think Riverside is the better team here and did already beat Hawaii earlier in the season. Hawaii has had an impressive season but I do think it comes to an end on Thursday night, as Riverside's defense is just too much to overcome here.
