TCU faces Texas on Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at the T-Mobile Center for a college basketball Big 12 conference tournament matchup.
TCU ended the regular season with a 70-64 loss at West Virginia back on March 5th. TCU’s struggles on the road continued as the Horned Frogs suffered three road losses to end the season against Texas, Kansas, and WVU down the stretch. TCU did pick up stellar upset victories over Kansas and Texas Tech during that stretch, however, and currently, the Frogs are projected to be an #8 seed according to ESPN bracketology. TCU is 19-11 overall and 8-10 in Big 12 play. TCU’s leading scorer this season has been G Mike Miles, who has scored 15.1 points per game. F Emanuel Miller leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.2 and G Damion Baugh leads the team in assists per game with 4.2. TCU as a team has scored 68.4 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.0% clip from the field. TCU has also allowed 64.8 points per game to its opponents as well.
Texas took a tough road loss in overtime to Kansas, 70-63, on March 5th to finish the regular season with a 21-10 overall record. Texas is currently ranked #21 in the nation but did lose three of its last five games of the regular season to Quad 1 teams in Texas Tech, Baylor, and Kansas. Texas is 10-8 in Big 12 play and will look to make a deep run in this year’s Phillips 66 Big 12 conference tourney. Texas’ leading scorer this season is F Timmy Allen, who has scored 12.2 points per game and has earned 6.5 rebounds per game as well. Texas as a team has scored 68.6 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.3% clip from the field. Texas has also allowed 59.5 points per game to its opponents as well.
Texas is a 6-point favorite and the total is set at 125. Texas has dominated this series this season with two strong showings. I think points are going to be hard to come by in this game, which does lead me to believe TCU has a shot at a cover as the sizable dog here. Texas has let its foot off the peddle before and it would not shock me to see TCU sneak in the backdoor in a 5-point Texas victory. This is obviously not a game I am rushing to the window for, but I will take TCU and the points.
