The Louisville Cardinals and Virginia Cavaliers face off on Wednesday in a college basketball showdown in the ACC Tournament at the Barclays Center. When these two teams faced off March 5th it was Virginia that won 71-61.
Virginia was led by Reece Beckman who finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sydney Curry was the top player for Louisville scoring 24 points.
Virginia currently sits with an 18-12 record overall and they have gone 2-0 on neutral courts this year. Virginia’s last game came against Louisville, and two games ago they lost to Duke by only four points. Virginia is averaging 63.6 points while their defense is giving up 60.4 points per game. Jayden Gardner has been the top player for Virginia averaging 15.2 points while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from behind the three point line. In this game, Virginia is going to need the defense to be good and I expect they are going to really try to keep the pace slow. This is a game Virginia can't lose because they need to make a run for a chance at the NCAA Tournament.
On the other side of this matchup is the Louisville Cardinals who sit with a 13-18 record overall, but they were able to win their first game of the ACC Tournament. Before that last win, Louisville had lost four games in a row. Louisville is averaging 67.3 points while their defense is giving up 70.6 points per game. The top player this season has been Noah Locke who is averaging 9.5 points while shooting 35.9 percent from the field. One issue for this team at times is they don’t really have a star player that they can lean on in key positions. In this game, Louisville is going to need the offense to be good.
I don’t trust the Louisville defense, and Virginia is going to have no issues running up the score against them. Look for Louisville’s defense to struggle, and that is going to be the difference as Virginia gets the job done. Back Virginia against the spread.
