Minnesota faces Northwestern on Sunday, March 6th, 2022 at Welsh-Ryan Arena for a college basketball Big Ten matchup.
Minnesota is coming off an 84-73 loss to Maryland in its last game on the road on March 2nd. Minnesota has now lost three straight games since its last win over these Northwestern Wildcats on February 19th. Minnesota will look to sweep the season series with a road win here, and the Gophers come into this game with a 13-15 overall record and a 4-15 Big Ten record. Minnesota’s leading scorer this season has been F Jamison Battle, who has scored 17.3 points per game and has earned 6.3 rebounds per game. Minnesota as a team has scored 67.8 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.3% clip from the field. Minnesota has also allowed 69.3 points per game to its opponents as well.
Northwestern is coming off an 82-61 loss to Iowa in its last game on the road on February 28th. Northwestern has now lost back-to-back games, both of which were on the road. Northwestern’s last win was back on February 22nd against lowly Nebraska, 77-65. Northwestern is 13-15 overall, 6-13 in Big Ten play, and has lost plenty of close games all season long. Northwestern’s leading scorer is F Pete Nance, who has scored 14.6 points per game and has earned 6.3 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. Northwestern as a team has scored 72.9 points per game and has shot the ball at a 42.8% clip from the field. Northwestern has also allowed 68.8 points per game to its opponents as well.
Northwestern is a 7.5-point favorite and the total is set at 137. Northwestern is certainly talented but mistakes down the stretch have cost this Wildcats team any chance at being competitive in the Big Ten this season. Minnesota basketball has not looked pretty as of late and I think the Golden Gophers are in trouble yet again here, especially on the road where Minnesota has struggled mightily. I will lay the points with NW here.
