Houston faces Memphis on Sunday, March 6th, 2022 at FedEx Forum for a college basketball AAC matchup.
Houston is coming off an 84-46 win over Temple in its last game on March 3rd at home. Houston has now won six straight games and its last four wins all came by double-digits. Houston is now 26-4 overall and a 15-2 in conference play. The Cougars have locked up the AAC regular-season title, owning a 2.5-game lead over SMU with only one game remaining on the schedule. Houston’s leading scorer is G Kyler Edwards, who has scored 13.4 points per game for the Cougars. C Josh Carlton leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.7 and G Jamal Shead leads the team in assists per game with 5.9. Houston as a team has scored 76.4 points per game and has shot the ball at a 46.8% clip from the field. Houston has also allowed 58.4 points per game to its opponents as well.
Memphis is coming off a 73-64 win over South Florida in its last game on the road on March 3rd. Despite the nine-point victory, Memphis did not cover the spread in the win. Memphis has won three straight games and is currently on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament spot. A win here would almost guarantee the Tigers find their way in, and right now Memphis owns an 18-9 overall record with a 12-5 AAC record. Memphis’ leading scorer this season is C Jalen Duran, who has scored 12.1 points per game and has earned 7.5 rebounds per game as well. Memphis as a team has scored 76.1 points per game and has shot the ball at a 47.3% clip from the field. Memphis has also allowed 68.7 points per game to its opponents as well.
Houston is a 2-point favorite and the total is set at 139. I think this game is going to be an all-out war. Both of these teams can play serious defense, as even though Memphis has played rather volatile this season and extremely fast, Coach Hardaway's defense is never easy to beat consistently. We know that Houston has one of the best defenses in the nation, and this game should be very tight throughout. I think the smartest play in this one is on the under, as I could see either team on top in the end, but I think scoring will be hard to come by.
