Xavier faces St. John's on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022 at Carnesseca Arena for a college basketball Big East matchup.
Xavier is coming off an 82-66 loss to Seton Hall in its last game on February 26th at home. Xavier has now lost four straight games, and that includes a triple-OT loss to Providence in one of the most entertaining games of the season and a 13-point loss to this St. John's team. Xavier is now 17-11 this season with a 7-10 Big East record and a 13-15-0 against the spread record as well. Xavier's leading scorer so far this season has been F Jack Nunge, who has scored 13.0 points per game for the Musketeers. G Colby Jones leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.7 and G Paul Scruggs leads the team in assists per game with 4.1. Xavier as a team has scored 73.1 points per game and has shot the ball at a 44.7% clip from the field. Xavier has also allowed 67.9 points per game to its opponents.
St. John's is coming off a 99-94 loss to DePaul in its last game on the road on February 27th. St. John's has now lost back-to-back games and three of its last five games as well. St. John's has a 15-13 overall record and a 7-10 Big East record as well. The Red Storm are 13-14-1 against the spread so far this season and have failed to cover in two straight. St. John's leading scorer so far this season has been G Julian Champagnie, who has scored 19.0 points per game and has earned 6.6 rebounds per game. St. John's as a team has scored 79.7 points per game and has shot the ball at a 45.3% clip from the field. St. John's has also allowed 74.4 points per game to its opponents as well.
St. John's is a 1.5-point favorite and the total is set at 156.5. Neither of these teams has impressed as of late but I like St. John's chances at a season sweep here. Xavier is in really bad form as of late and the Red Storm are tough to beat at Carnesseca. Xavier has crumbled down the stretch and there is no reason for me to believe the Musketeers turn it on on Wednesday night.
