The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Texas Longhorns face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at Frank Erwin Center. When these two teams faced off on February 1st it was Texas Tech that won 77-64.
Kevin McCullar was the top player for Texas Tech scoring 19 points and six rebounds. Marcus Carr was the top player for Texas scoring 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds.
Texas Tech comes into this game with a 20-6 record and they have gone 18-8 against the spread. Texas Tech has a ton of confidence heading into this game having won two games in a row. In the last game against Baylor, the offense was elite scoring 83 points. Texas Tech is averaging 74.2 points while their defense is giving up 61.3 points per game. Bryson Williams has been the top player for Texas Tech averaging 13.5 points while shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 45.9 percent from behind the three point line.
On the other side of this matchup is the Texas Longhorns who sit with a 19-7 record and they have gone 12-14 against the spread. This is a Longhorns team that is having a disappointing season, but they have won three of the last four games. The only loss during that stretch was against Baylor. In the last game against Oklahoma, it took overtime to get the job done, but they were able to win by two points. The Longhorns are averaging 68.9 points while their defense is giving up 57.6 points per game. The 57.6 points per game given up is second best in all of college basketball. Forward Timmy Allen has been the top player for Texas averaging 11.9 points per game.
There were a lot of emotions surrounding the last game with Chris Beard going back to Texas Tech. Even though this game is now at Texas, I don’t see the result being much different in this game. Texas is going to struggle to defend against the Red Raiders offense, and that will be the difference. Back Texas Tech to get the job done and cover the spread.
