The Northwestern Wildcats and Minnesota Gophers face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at Williams Arena. When these two teams faced off in March of 2021 it was Minnesota that won 51-46.
Northwestern comes into this game with a 12-12 record and they have gone 11-11-1 against the spread. Northwestern has lost two games in a row but they have been competitive. In the last game, Northwestern lost to Purdue by six points. Northwestern is averaging 74.3 points while their defense is giving up 68.1 points per game. Boo Buie has been the top player for Northwestern averaging 15 points while shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from behind the three point line.
On the other side of this matchup is Minnesota who comes into this game with a 12-12 record and they have gone 11-12-1 against the spread. Minnesota is really struggling having lost two games in a row. Two games ago against Ohio State they scored 45 points and in the last game against Penn State they scored only 46 points. Minnesota is averaging 66.7 points while their defense is giving up 68.5 points per game. Jamison Battle has been the top player for Minnesota averaging 16.4 points while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from behind the three point line. In this game, the offense is going to need to find a way to get the offense going, or this will be a very long game.
Northwestern is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four games. The Gophers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games following an against the spread loss. The over is 5-0 in Minnesota’s last five home games. The under is 4-1 in Minnesota’s last five games.
This is a Gophers team that is struggling to score, and it’s going to be no different in this game. Look for Minnesota to finish right around 50 points again, and that isn’t going to be enough to get the job done. Back Northwestern to cover the spread. Northwestern should win this game by at least seven or eight points, even on the road.
