The Dayton Flyers and VCU Rams face off on Wednesday in a college basketball showdown at the Siegel Center. When these two teams faced off on January 5th it was VCU that came away with the 53-52.
VCU was led by forward Vince Williams that finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Dayton was led by Toumani Camara and he finished with 16 points and five rebounds.
Dayton comes into this game with a 14-7 record and they have gone 10-11 against the spread. In the last game against Rhode Island, the defense was elite giving up only 51 points and that led to the two point victory. Dayton is averaging 68 points while their defense is giving up 60.7 points per game. Dayton doesn’t really have a star player but they have three players that are averaging at least 10 points per game. DaRon Holmes has been the scorer averaging 11.6 points while shooting 66.2 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the VCU Rams who sit with a 13-6 record and they have gone 13-6 against the spread. In the last game against Richmond, it was a close game, but VCU was able to win by three points. VCU is averaging 63.5 points while their defense is giving up 58.9 points per game. Vince Williams Jr has been the top player for VCU averaging 12.9 points while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from behind the three point line. VCU needs the defense to be good in this game to come away with the victory.
VCU is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games played on Wednesday. Dayton is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games played on Wednesday. The under is 6-0 in Dayton’s last six games overall.
I expect that both defenses are going to be strong like they were in the first game, and that will lead to this game being lower scoring. I don’t see either offense getting above 55 points and the under is going to cash in this one with ease.
