The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Wisconsin Badgers face off on Sunday in a Big Ten college basketball showdown at the Kohl Center. When these two teams faced off in December of 2020 it was Wisconsin that won 71-59.
Minnesota comes into this game with an 11-6 record overall and they have gone 8-8-1 against the spread. In the last game against Ohio State the defense struggled giving up 75 points and that led to the defeat. This is a scrappy team but they are lacking some talent on the bench and that has hurt this team. Minnesota is averaging 69.2 points while their defense is giving up 66.8 points per game. Jamison Battle has been the top player for Minnesota this season averaging 17.8 points while shooting 38.8 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the Wisconsin Badgers who sit with a 16-3 record overall and they have gone 12-7 against the spread. In the last game against Nebraska, it was a comfortable victory after only giving up 65 points. Wisconsin is averaging 72.7 points while their defense is giving up 66.8 points per game. Guard Johnny Davis has been the best player for Wisconsin averaging 21.7 points while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the three point line. In this game if Davis has a big game, the Badgers should have no issue cruising to the victory.
Wisconsin is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games following a straight up win. Minnesota is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games following an against the spread loss. The over is 7-0 in Wisconsin’s last seven games following a straight up win. The over is 5-0 in Wisconsin’s last five games.
It seems Minnesota is running out of gas and Wisconsin has too much bench production and they will find success in this game. Look for Minnesota to finish right around 60 points, and Wisconsin will cover the spread. Back the Badgers against the spread.
