South Dakota State faces North Dakota State on Thursday, December 30th, 2021 at the Scheels Center for a college basketball Summit League matchup.
South Dakota State is coming off an 82-76 win over Oral Roberts in its last game at home on December 22nd. South Dakota State is now 11-4 overall this season and a perfect 2-0 to start Summit League play. This will be the Jackrabbits' first conference road test against a very formidable North Dakota State team. South Dakota State played a tough non-conference schedule this year and had a few showcase wins over teams like Stephen F. Austin and Washington State. South Dakota State's leading scorer so far this season has been G Noah Freidel, who has scored 18.0 points per game for the Jackrabbits. G Baylor Scheierman leads the team in rebounds per game (8.7) and assists per game (3.9). South Dakota State as a team has scored 87.1 points per game and has shot the ball at a 50.6% clip from the field. South Dakota State has also allowed 75.4 points per game to its opponents.
North Dakota State is coming off an 86-76 home conference win over its in-state rival in North Dakota. North Dakota State is now on a four-game win streak and has improved to 9-4 overall this season with a 1-0 start in Summit League play. North Dakota State also played a tough non-conference schedule this season but did not fare as well as the Jackrabbits did. North Dakota State's leading scorer and leader, in general, is Rocky Kreuser, a potential player of the year in the Summit League this season. Kreuser is only scoring 13.8 points per game so far, but I expect his numbers to rise as the season carries on. Kreuser also leads the team in rebounds per game (8.2), and G Tyree Eady leads the team in assists per game (3.0). North Dakota State as a team has scored 70.8 points per game and has shot the ball at a 43.9% clip from the field. North Dakota State has also allowed 65.2 points per game to its opponents this season.
South Dakota State is a 4-point favorite and the total is set at 153.5. I think this is going to be a fascinating game and as a Summit League fan, I cannot wait for this one. I do think this game comes down to the wire and I feel that having the points with the home team may not be such a bad idea. North Dakota State is the better defensive team in my opinion and I think the Bison can score with SDSU here. I will take the points with NDSU in what could be a Summit League Championship preview.
