The Michigan State Spartans and UConn Huskies face off on Thursday in a college basketball showdown at the Battle 4 Atlantis at Imperial Arena.
The UConn Huskies come into this game with a 5-0 record and they have gone 3-2 against the spread. On Wednesday, it took double overtime, but the Huskies were able to come away with the 115-109 victory. The big concern coming out of that game has to be the legs of the Huskies. UConn is averaging 96.6 points while their defense is giving up 62.8 points per game. Forward Adama Sanogo has been the top player for UConn averaging 15.8 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. There are five different players averaging at least 10 points per game, and in this game, they are going to need a ton of production from everywhere.
On the other side of this matchup is the UConn Huskies who sit with a 4-1 record overall and they have gone 3-1-1 against the spread. The one loss for UConn came against Kansas in the first game of the season. Michigan State is averaging 76.6 points while their defense is giving up 61 points per game. The Spartans faced off with Loyola Chicago on Wednesday and it was a close battle that they were able to close out late. Gabe Brown has been the top player for Michigan State averaging 14 points while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from deep. In this game the defense is going to need to lock down.
Michigan State is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four games overall. UConn is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games after scoring more than 90 points in the previous game. The under is 4-1 in the Spartans' last five games played on Thursday.
UConn’s tired legs are a big concern coming into this game, and I expect they are going to really struggle to get up good shots against a good Michigan State defense. Look for MIchigan State to hold UConn under 60 points, and the Spartans will come away with a cover of the spread.
