The Vanderbilt Commodores and Pitt Panthers face off on Wednesday in a college basketball showdown at the Petersen Events Center.
The Pitt Panthers come into this game with a 2-2 record overall and they have gone 2-2 against the spread. Pitt opened up their season with a loss against The Citadel and West Virginia before beating UNC Wilmington and Towson in the last two games. In the last game against Towson it was probably closer than they hoped, but they were able to win by four points. Pitt is only averaging 61 points while their defense is giving up 65.5 points per game. Forward John Hugley has been the top player for Pitt averaging 16 points while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. Guard Femi Odukale is also having a nice season averaging 11.5 points while shooting 41 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the Vanderbilt Commodores who sit with a 3-1 record and they have gone 2-2 against the spread. In the last game against Winthrop, the defense was strong giving up only 63 points and that was enough to come away with the 14 point victory. The one loss for Vanderbilt was a shocking one against VCU, and the offense could only manage 37 points. Vanderbilt is averaging 71 points while their defense is giving up 60.8 points per game. Vanderbilt is shooting only 40.87 percent from the field which is 272nd in college basketball. Forward Jordan Wright has been the best player for Vanderbilt and he is averaging 18.8 points while shooting 55.1 percent from the field.
Pitt is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played on Wednesday. Vanderbilt is 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight road games. The under is 4-0 in Pitt’s last four games overall. The under is 4-0 in Vanderbilt’s last four road games.
Vanderbilt is the better team, and I expect Pitt is going to struggle to score again in this game. Look for Vanderbilt to get close to 75 points, and that will be enough for the Commodores to cover the spread.
