Bring out the popcorn as it’s time for a showdown between two of the top teams. It’s a final four rematch when the UCLA Bruins face the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Both teams are coming off of relatively easy victories last night. Both teams are 5-0 and will look to deliver the other their first loss of the season.
Chet Holmgren scored 19 points and No. 1 Gonzaga breezed past Central Michigan 107-54 on Monday night. In a look ahead to probably one of their biggest regular season games the Bulldogs did not disappoint as they almost doubled the Chippewas points late last night.
Drew Timme has stepped up in a big offensive role for the Zags this season as he is averaging 19 and 6 a night. The Bulldogs have also gotten production out of Julian Strawther who averages 15 and 5 a night. Holmgren averages 13 a contest.
The Bulldogs are scoring 93.2 points a night which is simply out of this world and 2nd in the nation. They are shooting a whooping 55.5% from the field. They are allowing opponents to score a little less than 60 a game.
UCLA was able to beat winless Bellarmine in their last game, 75-62. The Bruins were led by Peyton Watson off the bench. This was likely the best thing they could ask for as their starters should be fresh for this one. Johnny Juzang and David Singleton each contributed 13 points to help the cause.
The Bruins are led by Johnny Juzang who has been looking more and more like an NBA level talent. He is averaging 20 points and 4 rebounds per game. Jamie Jaquez and Jules Bernard are both averaging 15 a night for UCLA.
The Bruins are averaging 90.8 points per game on 48.7% from the field. They are allowing opponents to score 6.8 points per game but has seen a tougher schedule than the Zags as they faced Nova in a game that UCLA won in OT.
The Bruins are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games as an underdog and are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
The Zags have been dominant against the spread, but the teams have been weaker. UCLA has the revenge factor after losing in the final four. Juzang will want his revenge but I’m not sure if he gets it. I think Gonzaga gets the win but UCLA can keep it within 6 points. I think this will be a one or two possession game.
