The Chaminade Silverswords and Notre Dame Fighting Irish face off in the Maui Invitational at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
Chaminade is a staple in the Maui Invitational and even though the tournament has moved to Las Vegas this year, they are still involved. The Silverswords comes into this game with a 2-1 record overall and their two wins came against Alaska and Alaska Anchorage. On Monday, Chaminade faced off against the Oregon Ducks and they were completely overmatched. At halftime, Chaminade was only down by seven points, but in the second half they ran out of gas and lost 73-49. The best player for the Silverswords was Raazhel Watkins who finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Silverswords aren’t a very deep team with only seven players playing more than 10 minutes.
On the other side of this matchup is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish who won their first two games of the season before losing their game on Monday against Saint Mary’s. The offense wasn’t good enough scoring only 59 points and that led to the defeat. At halftime, they were tied, but in the second half they were outscored 31-28. Notre Dame hasn’t scored more than 70 points in a game and it’s clear that they like to play a slower pace. Notre Dame is averaging 65,7 points while their defense is giving up 58.3 points per game. Paul Atkinson Jr has been the top player for Notre Dame averaging 16 points while shooting 67.9 percent from the field. There are four different players averaging at least 10 points. There have only been eight players that have scored any points and the depth of this team has to be a concern.
Notre Dame wants to keep the pace slow, and Chaminade isn’t an elite offensive team, especially against a D1 team. Even against Chaminade, it wouldn't be shocking if Notre Dame finished with under 65 points. Look for the lack of scoring by both teams to keep this game under the total. Back the under to cash.
