The 3-seed NC State Wolfpack (14-10) was able to advance to the quarterfinals after defeating the 2-seed Davidson Wildcats, 75-61, this past Thursday. NC State was outstanding offensively against Davidson and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 65-44 lead with 8:55 left in regulation. NC State shot 58.8% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc while Davidson shot 44.2% from the field and 29.2% from beyond the arc. NC State outrebounded Davidson by a 29-24 margin and won the turnover battle by a 10-9 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was DJ Funderburk who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, & 1 assist.
On the season, NC State is averaging 73.3 ppg on 47.2% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 36.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, NC State has been led by Jericole Hellems (12.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.1 spg), DJ Funderburk (12.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg), Manny Bates (9.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.7 bpg), & Cam Hayes (7.9 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, NC State is allowing their opponents to average 69.9 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack have a rebound margin of -1.4 and a turnover margin of 2.4.
The Colorado State Rams (19-6) advanced to the quarterfinals after narrowing defeating the 4-seed Buffalo Bulls, 75-73, this past Friday. In a tight, back-and-forth game in the 2nd half, Colorado State was able to avoid the upset after Isaiah Stevens hit a game-winning lay-up with just 1.2 seconds left in regulation. Colorado State shot 44.3% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc while Buffalo shot 47.6% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. Colorado State was outrebounded by Buffalo by a 39-37 margin, however, won the turnover battle by a 14-11 margin in the victory. Offensively, Colorado State has been led by David Roddy (16.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.6 apg), Isaiah Stevens (15.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Kendle Moore (10.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.4 spg), & Adam Thistlewood (9.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg).
Defensively, Colorado State is holding their opponents to an average of 65.8 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of 0.2.
The Wolfpack are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, however, are just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win. The Rams are 26-9 ATS in their last 35 Thursday games, however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Colorado State has had a great season and just missed out on the NCAA tournament, however, despite the Rams coming into this game ranked 89th in scoring offense & 53rd in scoring defense, it is a bit concerning to see how other Mountain West teams have fared in the NCAA Tournament as we saw both San Diego State & Utah State get bounced early. NC State has been playing solid basketball as of late, winning 8 of their last 9 games, and as I think their offense, which ranks 116th in scoring offense, 39th in FG%, & 51st in 3P-FG%, will be able to have some success in this one, I am taking NC State in this pick-em. Good Luck!
