Coastal Carolina faces Pepperdine on Wednesday, March 24th at the Ocean Center for an NCAA Basketball CBI Championship game.
Coastal Carolina needed overtime to defeat Stetson in the CBI semifinals on Tuesday evening. Coastal Carolina beat Stetson by the final score of 77-72 to reach its second CBI Championship game. Since the tournament was created in 2008, no team had ever been to more than one CBI Championship, but Coastal Carolina is the first team to earn that feat and will look for its first championship win on Wednesday. Coastal Carolina's leading scorer this season has been G De'Vante Jones, who has scored 20.3 points per game for the Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina as a team has scored 80.4 points per game and has shot the ball at a 45.9% clip from the field. Coastal Carolina has also allowed 82.0 points per game to its opponents as well.
Pepperdine defeated Bellarmine by the final score of 82-71 in the CBI semifinals game on Tuesday night. Pepperdine was in real trouble at halftime of that game, as the Waves allowed 50 points to Bellarmine and found themselves down by nine points to the Knights. Pepperdine figured it out on the defensive side in the second half, allowing only 21 points to Bellarmine to earn the double-digit win. Pepperdine's leading scorer this season has been G Colbey Ross, who has scored 18.0 points per game for the Waves. Pepperdine as a team has scored 76.4 points per game and has shot the ball at a 45.8% clip from the field. Pepperdine has also allowed 66.0 points per game to its opponents as well.
Pepperdine opens as a 5-point favorite and the total is set at 156.5. This has the makings of being a very entertaining and competitive game between two teams that love to run and score in transition. There is no surprise that the total is set so high at 156.5, but I think the strongest play is taking Coastal Carolina and the points here. I think both teams have a shot at winning this game, so having five points in our back pocket won't hurt.
