The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Houston Cougars face off on Saturday in a round of 32 NCAA tournament college basketball showdown at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights had a tough opening game against the Clemson Tigers, and it was a tough game but they were able to come out on top. In the second half, Rutgers outscored Clemson 37-30 in the second half, and that was the difference as they came away with the victory. It was a balanced attack by Rutgers with Geo Baker, Jacob Young, and Caleb McConnell all scoring 13 points. Rutgers on the season is averaging 69.6 points per game while their defense is giving up 67.8 points per game. Rutgers is shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from behind the three point line.
The Houston Cougars seemed to be one of those teams that people had a lot of question marks about, but they looked good in that first game. Houston faced off with Cleveland State and in the second half they really pulled away as they were able to win 87-56. Houston outscored Cleveland State 87-56. Houston overall is averaging 77.6 points per game while their defense is giving up 57.9 points per game. Houston is shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from behind the three point line. Quentin Grimes has been the best player all season for Houston averaging 18 points while shooting 41 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from deep.
The under is 7-3 in Rutgers last ten games overall. Houston is 13-4 against the spread in their last 17 games overall. The over is 6-2 in Houston’s last eight games overall. The over is 6-2 in Houston's last eight games as a favorite.
I am still not sold on this Houston team being elite and I think they will have some struggles in this one. They should still do enough to win, but Rutgers will cover the spread. Back Rutgers.
