The Connecticut Huskies will be playing the Creighton Bluejays on Friday in the Big East Tournament semifinals. Whichever team advances will play the winner of Georgetown vs. Seton Hall in the Conference Final.
The Huskies have now won 5 straight games. Last time out they took down DePaul 94-60 in the 2nd round of the tournament. UConn shot 44.7% from the field, and 28.6% from deep. They only turned the ball over 8 times, and dished out 20 assists on their 34 make. Tyrese Martin, R.J. Cole and Adama Sanogo led the team with 14 points each. Defensively the Huskies came away with a 53-32 advantage on the boards, while also coming away with 8 steals. UConn is averaging 73.3 points per game, while allowing 64.9 to the opposition. James Bouknight leads the team with 19.4 points per game. R.J. Cole leads the offense with 4.4 assists per game.
Creighton comes into this one having gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. Most recently they came away with a 87-56 victory over Butler in the 2nd round of the tournament. Creighton was on fire in that game, shooting 62.5% from the field and 54.2% from three. Of their 35 makes, 22 came via assist. Marcus Zegarowski led the team with 18 points, going 4-5 from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays limited the Bulldogs to 26.9% shooting from three, and came away with a 32-29 rebounding advantage. Creighton is averaging 78.8 points per game, while giving up 65.6 to their opponents. Zegarowski leads the team with 15.5 points and 4.4 assists per game.
Creighton is 12-14 ATS this season, 5-5 ATS in their last 10, and 10-13 ATS as the favorite. UConn is 16-4-1 ATS this season, 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10, and 3-1-1 ATS as the dog.
The Huskies lost both times they played Creighton this season. The first one was earlier in the year when Bouknight was healthy, and they only lost by 2 points. I do expect this game to be close, but Creighton has too many guys that can shoot from deep for me to back the Huskies. Creighton had no trouble scoring from anywhere on the floor last time out, and the return of Bouknight will do little to stop the Blue Jays offense. Give me Creighton to get the win.
