The Charlotte 49ers will travel to the Cam Henderson Center to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Charlotte 49ers will look to avoid a 2-game sweep at the hands of the Marshall Thundering Herd and the 49ers were defeated by the Thundering Herd, 75-67, on Friday night. Charlotte trailed by a 47-31 margin at halftime and could not fight back after Marshall took a 69-50 lead with 5:50 left in regulation. Charlotte shot 43.3% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc while Marshall shot 49.2% from the field and 34.6% from beyond the arc. Charlotte outrebounded Marshall by a 35-34 margin while each team committed 10 turnovers. Leading the way for the 49ers was Jahmir Young (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 1 block) while the Thundering Herd were led by Taevion Kinsey (19 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists).
Coming into their game against Marshall on Friday, Charlotte was averaging 63.3 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The 49ers were averaging 5.7 three-pointers per game on 32.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charlotte had been led by Jahmir Young (18.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.6 apg), Jordan Shepherd (11.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.4 spg), Brice Williams (9.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.0 apg), & Jhery Matos (8.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Charlotte was holding their opponents to an average of 65.7 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The 49ers had a rebound margin of -0.5 and a turnover margin of -1.0.
Coming into their game against Charlotte on Friday, Marshall was averaging 81.1 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The 49ers were averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Marshall had been led by Taevion Kinsey (19.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.2 apg), Jarrod West (13.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 6.3 apg, 2.6 spg), Andrew Taylor (11.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.5 spg), & Jannson Williams (8.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.0 bpg).
Defensively, Marshall was holding their opponents to an average of 73.2 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Thundering Herd had a rebound margin of -2.4 and a turnover margin of 2.9.
The 49ers are 22-50 ATS in their last 72 road games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Thundering Herd are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 Saturday games and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a ATS loss.
Charlotte was able to pull off a backdoor ATS cover last night after trailing by as many as 20 points in the 2nd half, however, it is hard to image the 49ers not struggling again in this one as the 49ers have lost 7 straight games and currently ranks just 319th in scoring offense. Marshall has been at home this season, posting an 8-3 record, and as I think their offense, which ranks 23rd in scoring offense, 31st in FG%, & 31st in three-pointers per game, will have success in this one, I am taking Marshall to cover this double-digit home spread. Good Luck!
