The Oregon State Beavers will travel to the Jon M. Huntsman Center to take on the Utah Utes this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Oregon State Beavers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-11 on the season after defeating the Stanford Cardinal, 73-62, this past Saturday. Oregon State was impressive on the defensive end against the short-handed Cardinal team and was able to pull away late after taking a 65-54 lead with 3:12 left in regulation. Oregon State shot 46.4% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc while Stanford shot 47.1% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. Oregon State outrebounded Stanford by a 31-29 margin and won the turnover battle by a 16-8 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Beavers was Jarod Lucas who had 26 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, & 3 steals.
On the season, Oregon State is averaging 70.0 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Beavers are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Oregon State has been led by Ethan Thompson (15.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.3 spg), Jarod Lucas (12.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.0 apg), Warith Alatishe (9.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.6 bpg), & Zach Reichle (7.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.2 apg).
Defensively, Oregon State is holding their opponents to an average of 67.5 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Beavers have a rebound margin of 0.1 and a turnover margin of 1.6.
The Utah Utes snapped their 4-game losing streak and improved to 10-11 on the season after defeating the 19th ranked USC Trojans, 71-61, this past Saturday. Utah’s defense was outstanding against USC and the Utes had no trouble pulling away in the 2nd half after Utah took a 55-44 lead with 9:34 left in regulation. Utah shot 48.2% from the field and 60.0% from beyond the arc while USC shot 37.3% from the field and 15.4% from beyond the arc. Utah was outrebounded by USC by a 41-30 margin and forced 13 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Utes was Timmy Allen who had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, & 2 steals.
On the season, Utah is averaging 69.1 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Utes are averaging 6.5 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Utah has been led by Timmy Allen (16.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.3 spg), Alfonso Plummer (13.0 ppg, 2.2 rpg), Branden Carlson (9.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.8 bpg), & Mikael Jantunen (8.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg).
Defensively, Utah is allowing their opponents to average 67.9 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Utes have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The Beavers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Utes are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win.
Oregon State has been playing some solid basketball as of late, however, this is still a team that has lost 4 of their last 7 games and just beat a Stanford team that was missing their best player. Oregon State has been solid defensively this season, however, the Beavers rank just 211th in scoring offense & 259th in FG%. Utah is coming off a great home win against USC behind a solid defensive effort and between the fact that Utah is 7-4 at home this season and that their defense, which ranks 104th in scoring defense, should give Oregon State trouble, I am taking Utah to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
Brett’s Pick Utah Utes -3.5
