The Lehigh Mountain Hawks will travel to Case Gym to take on the Boston University Terriers this Wednesday night in the 1st round of the Patriot League Tournament.
The Lehigh Mountain Hawks finished their regular season with an overall record of 4-10 and earned the 10-seed in the Patriot League Tournament after finishing conference play with a 4-10 record. Lehigh was able to kick off their season with an impressive 90-89 victory over the 3-seed Lafayette, however, the Mountain Hawks struggled the rest of the way with their only wins coming against Holy Cross & Loyola-MD. Lehigh struggled on both ends of the court this season, but the Mountain Hawks really struggled defensive as they finished the regular season ranked just 305th in scoring defense & 290th in defensive FG%. Lehigh comes into this game with not much momentum as the Mountain Hawks have lost 5 of their last 6 games with included a 75-47 loss against Loyola-MD.
On the season, Lehigh is averaging 69.1 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Mountain Hawks are averaging 4.9 three-pointers per game on 31.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Lehigh has been led by Marques Wilson (15.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.6 spg), Nic Lynch (13.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg), Evan Taylor (9.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.5 apg), & Jeameril Wilson (7.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.0 apg).
Defensively, Lehigh is allowing their opponents to average 77.1 ppg on 46.4% shooting from the field. The Mountain Hawks have a rebound margin of -0.7 and a turnover margin of -1.1.
The Boston University Terriers finished their regular season with an overall record of 6-10 and earned the 7-seed in the Patriot League Tournament after finishing conference play with a 6-10 record. Boston University had a rough start to their season as the Terriers started the season with just a 1-5 record, however, the Terriers were able to win 4 of 5 at one point, including two road wins at Lafayette. Boston University was below average on both ends of the ball this season as the Terriers ranked just 227th in scoring offense, 272nd in scoring defense, & 328th in defensive FG%. Boston University had a tough schedule at the end of their season and went just 1-7 on the year against two of the better Patriot League team in Colgate & Army.
On the season, Boston University is averaging 69.4 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Terriers are averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game on 32.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Boston University has been led by Javante McCoy (15.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.3 apg), Walter Whyle (13.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.1 spg), Sukhmail Mathon (10.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 bpg), & Jonas Harper (7.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 spg).
Defensively, Boston University is allowing their opponents to average 74.8 ppg on 48.0% shooting from the field. The Terriers have a rebound margin of 2.1 and a turnover margin of -2.3.
The Mountain Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, however, are just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Terriers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, however, are just 13-33 ATS in their last 46 home games.
Boston University is not as strong as we have seen in recent years, however, this is still a much better team that Lehigh who comes into this game ranked just 238th in scoring offense, 305th in scoring defense, & 290th in defensive FG%. Lehigh has not picked up a quality win since their first game of the season and as I think the Terriers will be able to put up plenty of points against the Mountain Hawks defense on their home court, I’m taking Boston University to cover this spread. Good Luck!
