The Merrimack Warriors will be heading on the road to face the Wagner Seahawks this Tuesday. This will be their first matchup after the previous games were cancelled.
Wagner comes into this game tied for first in the Northeast Conference. They had won ten in a row prior to losing their last game 83-77 against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils. This felt like a let down game for Wagner, as they beat the Blue Devils by 20 in their previous game. They were ice cold from three, shooting 3-20 from deep. The Seahawks did not move the ball well, only assisting on 10 of 32 baskets. The one bright spot on offense was senior guard Alex Morales, who put up 29 on 12-20 shooting from the field. On the defensive end Wagner managed to come away with 11 steals and won the rebound battle by 3. However they committed 20 fouls in the game which led to 26 free throw attempts for the Blue Devils, who knocked down 21 of those. Wagner is scoring 72.2 points per game, while allowing 69.5 to their opponents this season. Elijah Ford has led the offense, averaging 17.9 points per game with an efficient 60.1% field goal percentage. Alex Morales leads the team with 4.5 assists, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
Merrimack heads into this one having snapped their three game losing streak with a 75-67 win against the St. Francis Terriers. Merrimack was aggressive all game, drawing 27 fouls which resulted in them hitting 23 of 31 free throws. They shot 48.1% from the field but only went 2-12 from beyond the arc. Merrimack had assists on 10 of 25 makes in the game. Ziggy Reid led the scoring for the Warriors with 29 points on 10-14 shooting. The Warriors limited the Terriers to 2-16 shooting from three. The defense also had 12 steals and 8 blocks in the effort. The Warriors are averaging 66.7 point per game, while giving up 66.4 to the opposition. Mikey Watkins leads the team with 12.2 points and 4 assists per game.
Merrimack is 10-6 ATS this season, 4-3 ATS on the road, and 6-2 ATS after a win. Wagner is 10-7 ATS this season, 4-3 ATS at home, and 2-2 ATS after a loss.
Wagner was on quite the run before dropping their last game. I don't expect Wagner to be as sloppy in this game, as they are back on their home floor. They have played well at home, boasting a 5-2 record. Merrimack on the other hand has been playing better on the road of late, going 2-1 in their last three with their only loss coming at Bryant. Despite that I expect the duo of Morales and Ford to be too much for Merrimack to handle. Give me Wagner to cover at home.
