The South Florida Bulls will travel to the Fertitta Center to take on the 12th ranked Houston Cougars this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The South Florida Bulls dropped to 8-9 on the season after being defeated by the Temple Owls, 65-47, this past Wednesday night. South Florida could get nothing going on the offensive end in this one and could not fight back after Temple took a 51-34 lead with 13:06 left in regulation. South Florida shot just 28.8% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc while Temple shot 45.1% from the field and 47.8% from beyond the arc. South Florida outrebounded Temple by a 37-33 margin, however, the Bulls lost the turnover battle by a 17-10 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulls was Justin Brown who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, & 3 steals.
On the season, South Florida is averaging 67.2 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Bulls are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 33.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Florida has been led by David Collins (12.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 spg), Alexis Yetna (9.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Caleb Murphy (9.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.1 apg), & Justin Brown (8.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.0 apg).
Defensively, South Florida is allowing their opponents to average 69.5 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Bulls have a rebound margin of 5.3 and a turnover margin of -1.4.
The 12th ranked Houston Cougars won their 2nd straight game and improved to 19-3 on the season after defeating the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 81-57, this past Thursday. Houston led by just a 39-38 margin at halftime, however, the Cougars dominated a very good Western Kentucky team in the 2nd half and pulled away after taking a 61-47 lead with 9:42 left in regulation. Houston shot 46.0% from the field and 41.9% from beyond the arc while Western Kentucky shot 41.7% from the field and 23.5% from beyond the arc. Houston and Western Kentucky each pulled down 31 rebounds while the Cougars won the turnover battle by a 20-9 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Cougars was Quentin Grimes who had 33 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, & 2 steals.
ON the season, Houston is averaging 76.7 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Houston has been led by Quentin Grimes (17.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.2 spg), Marcus Sasser (14.4 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.4 spg), DeJon Jarreau (10.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.5 spg), & Tramon Mark (8.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Houston is holding their opponents to an average 57.5 ppg on 36.6% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 9.4 and a turnover margin of 4.0.
The Bulls are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 road games, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Cougars are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Houston is a heavy favorite in this game and for good reason as the Cougars have been unstoppable at home this season with a perfect 13-0 record and come into this game with arguably the best defense in all of College Basketball as Houston currently ranks 2nd in scoring defense, 1st in defensive FG%, & 8th in rebound margin. South Florida has some talent, however, the Bulls have lost 4 of their last 5 games and have an offense that can struggle as they currently rank just 268th in scoring offense & 303rd in FG%. Houston is coming off victories against Cincinnati & Western Kentucky by a combined 62 points as I do not think South Florida is better than either of those two teams and that I don’t seem them scoring more than 50 points in this one, I’m taking Houston to cover this large spread. Good Luck!
