The Pittsburgh Panthers lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 9-9 on the season after being defeated by the 16th ranked Florida State Seminoles, 79-72, this past Saturday. Pittsburgh struggled offensively against the Florida State defense and could not fight back into the game after the Seminoles took a 61-51 lead with 9:21 left in regulation. Pittsburgh shot 38.2% from the field and 23.5% from beyond the arc while Florida State shot 44.8% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc. Pittsburgh was outrebounded by Florida State by a 43-39 margin and committed 8 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was Justin Champagnie who had a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, & 1 steal.
On the season, Pittsburgh is averaging 72.2 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 32.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Pittsburgh has been led by Justin Champagnie (18.8 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.1 bpg), Au’diese Toney (14.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.3 spg), Xavier Johnson (14.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.7 apg, 1.3 spg), & Ithiel Horton (9.7 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.7 apg).
Defensively, Pittsburgh is allowing their opponents to average 70.3 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of 4.5 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The NC State Wolfpack won their 3rd straight game and improved to 11-9 on the season after defeating the 15th ranked Virginia Cavaliers, 68-61, this past Wednesday night. NC State led by a 29-23 margin at halftime and was able to pull away later after taking a 57-49 lead with 3:11 left in regulation. NC State shot 45.5% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc while Virginia shot 37.0% from the field and 28.0% from beyond the arc. NC State outrebounded Virginia by a 31-30 margin and committed just 9 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Cam Hayes who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals.
On the season, NC State is averaging 73.5 ppg on 47.2% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 36.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, NC State has been led by Jericole Hellems (13.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.0 spg), DJ Funderburk (12.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg), Manny Bates (9.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.8 bpg), & Thomas Allen (7.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, NC State is allowing their opponents to average 69.8 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack have a rebound margin of -0.9 and a turnover margin of 2.5.
The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games following three or more consecutive home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Wolfpack are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall, however, are just 2-8-2 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
NC State has been impressive as of late, winning 4 of their last 6 games which included a 74-73 win at Pittsburgh and has been led by their offense which ranks 120th in scoring offense & 40th in FG%. Pittsburgh has lost 7 of their last 8 games, however, this is still a very talented team that has been very competitive in the ACC this season which included picking up wins against Duke & Virginia Tech. NC State has played better than expect since losing their top scorer, Devon Daniels, for the season, however, I’m a big fan of this Pittsburgh team and between the fact that the Panthers have been decent on the road (3-3 record) and will have the best player on the court in Justin Champagnie, I think the play here is to take Pittsburgh and the points. Good Luck!
