The VCU Rams will travel to John M. Belk Arena to take on the Davidson Wildcats this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The VCU Rams improved to 17-5 on the season after defeating the Saint Louis Billikens, 67-65, this past Tuesday. VCU was solid defensively against Saint Louis and was able to take the lead for good after Adrian Baldwin Jr. hit a pair of game-winning FT’s with just :04 seconds left in regulation. VCU shot 43.6% from the field and 35.0% shooting from the field while Saint Louis shot 42.1% from the field and 30.0% from beyond the arc. VCU was outrebounded by Saint Louis by a 43-28 margin while winning the turnover battle by a 15-7 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Rams was Adrian Baldwin Jr. who had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, & 3 steals.
On the season, VCU is averaging 73.0 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, VCU has been led by Nah’Shon Hyland (19.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg), Vince Williams Jr. (11.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.1 spg), Adrian Baldwin Jr. (6.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.5 apg, 2.2 spg), & Hason Ward (6.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.1 apg, 2.4 bpg).
Defensively, VCU is holding their opponents to an average of 65.2 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of -0.5 and a turnover margin of 2.5.
The Davidson Wildcats lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 11-7 on the season after being defeated by the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 56-53, this past Wednesday. Davidson fought back from a 41-28 deficit early in the 1st half to tie the game late, however, Saint Bonaventure was able to hold off Davidson for the victory after a Jalen Adaway three-pointer gave the Bonnies the lead for good with just 1:56 left in regulation. Davidson shot 42.9% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc while St. Bonaventure shot 39.6% from the field and 52.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Carter Collins who had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 block.
On the season, Davidson is averaging 72.3 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 36.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Davidson has been led by Kellan Grady (17.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.2 apg), Hyunjung Lee (13.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.7 apg), Carter Collins (12.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.9 apg), & Luka Brajkovic (10.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 apg).
Defensively, Davidson is holding their opponents to an average of 63.8 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 6.3 and a turnover margin of -0.8.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, however, are just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Wildcats are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS loss, however, are just 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Davidson could not pick up a win against St. Bonaventure in their recent 2-game series and it was a bit concerning to see their offense struggle as it did as they averaged just 55.5 ppg against the Bonnies. VCU has won 7 of their last 8 games and has been led by their defense, which ranks 50th in scoring defense, 46th in defensive FG%, & 5th in steals per game. I expect this to be a close game, however, as I think the VCU is the better team and that their defense will keep this a low-scoring battle, I think the play here is to take the Rams and the points. Good Luck!
