The Duquesne Dukes will travel to Tom Gola Arena to take on the La Salle Explorers this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Duquesne Dukes had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-7 on the season after being defeated by the Richmond Spiders, 79-72, this past Saturday. Duquesne fought back from a 49-36 deficit early in the 2nd half to take a 70-69 lead late, however, the Dukes offense struggled down the stretch and Richmond was able to secure the victory after going on a 10-2 run over the final 1:59 of regulation. Duquesne shot 44.8% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc while Richmond shot 55.1% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. Duquesne was outrebounded by Richmond by a 31-28 and committed 11 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Dukes was Michael Hughes who had 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, & 4 steals.
On the season, Duquesne is averaging 66.3 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Dukes are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 29.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Duquesne has been led by Marcus Weathers (14.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.6 apg), Michael Hughes (11.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.4 bpg), Tavian Dunn-Martin (10.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.1 spg), & Chad Baker (8.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.4 apg).
Defensively, Duquesne is holding their opponents to an average of 65.1 ppg on 40.8% shooting from the field. The Dukes have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 0.4.
The La Salle Explorers lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 8-14 on the season after being defeated by the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, 91-82 in OT, this past Saturday. Despite putting up 82 points, the La Salle offense did not have a great shooting night against Saint Josephs and the Explorers could not fight back after the Hawks took an 86-80 lead with just 1:36 left in OT. La Salle shot 39.2% from the field and 11.5% from beyond the arc while Saint Joseph’s shot 48.5% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. La Salle outrebounded Saint Joseph’s by a 47-45 margin and committed 10 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Explorers was Jhamir Brickus who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 block, & 5 steals.
On the season, La Salle is averaging 68.0 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Explorers are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, La Salle has been led by Sherif Kenney (10.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg), Jack Clark (10.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.2 apg), Jhamir Brickus (8.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.0 spg), David Beatty (8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.1 apg).
Defensively, La Salle is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Explorers have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of 0.0.
The Dukes are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games. The Explorers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games.
Duquesne could not pick up a win at Richmond, however, the Dukes have been playing some solid basketball as of late, winning 4 of their last 6 games, and come into this game led by their defense that ranks 48th in scoring defense & 53rd in defensive FG%. La Salle is better at home, however, this is still a team that has lost 6 of their last 7 games and as the Explorers ranks just 259th in scoring offense & 245th in scoring defense, I think the play here is to take Duquesne to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
