The Wofford Terriers will travel to the Pete Hanna Center to take on the Samford Bulldogs this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The Wofford Terriers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 14-8 on the season after defeating the Western Carolina Catamounts, 80-56, this past Saturday. Wofford had no trouble generating offense in the 1st half against Western Carolina and had no trouble securing the victory after going into halftime with a 50-27 lead. Wofford shot 56.9% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc while Western Carolina shot just 38.5% from the field and 30.4% from beyond the arc. Wofford and Western Carolina each brought down 30 rebounds while the Terriers won the turnover battle by a 14-6 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Terriers was Morgan Safford who had 14 points, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal.
On the season, Wofford is averaging 75.0 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Terriers are averaging 10.4 three-pointers per game on 35.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wofford has been led by Storm Murphy (17.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Tray Hollowell (11.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.1 apg), Messiah Jones (9.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.2 apg), & Morgan Safford (9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Wofford is allowing their opponents to average 67.8 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Terriers have a rebound margin of 2.5 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The Samford Bulldogs lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 6-12 on the season after being defeated by the Furman Paladins, 78-64, this past Wednesday. Samford went into halftime trailing by a 36-30 margin and could not fight back after Furman took a 64-50 lead with just 7:47 left in regulation. Samford shot 43.9% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc while Furman shot 51.7% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc. Samford outrebounded Furman by a 35-29 margin, however, lost the turnover battle by a 17-10 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Jaron Rillie who had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, & 1 steal.
On the season, Samford is averaging 77.8 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 31.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Samford has been led by Myron Gordon (15.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.7 apg), Christian Guess (15.1 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.3 apg), A.J. Staton-McCray (10.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.7 spg), & Logon Dye (9.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg). Samford has been without both their top scorers in Myron Gordon & Christian Guess since January.
Defensively, Samford is allowing their opponents to average 79.1 ppg on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of -1.8.
Trends will be provided when released.
The line has yet to be released for this game, however, it is hard to be able to trust Samford as the Bulldogs have lost 9 of their last 10 games and have not been able to score the ball lately without their top two scorers. Wofford is one of the better Southern Conference teams and between the fact that their offense should have plenty of success against the Samford’s 324th ranked scoring defense and that Wofford has a winning record on the road, my initial lean is to take Wofford to cover what should be a large road spread. Good Luck!
