The NC State Wolfpack will travel to Lawrence Joel Coliseum to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The NC State Wolfpack snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 9-9 on the season after defeating the Pittsburgh Panthers, 74-73, this past Wednesday. NC State was outstanding from the field against the Pittsburgh defense and was able to hand on late after a pair of Cam Hayes FT’s gave the Wolfpack a 74-71 lead with :22 seconds left in regulation. NC State shot 56.9% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc while Pittsburgh shot 50.0% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. NC State was outrebounded by Pittsburgh by a 27-26 margin, however, did force 14 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was DJ Funderburk who had 16 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal.
On the season, NC State is averaging 73.5 ppg on 47.2% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 35.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, NC State has been led by Devon Daniels (16.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.7 spg), Jericole Hellems (13.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.1 spg), DJ Funderburk (12.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg), & Manny Bates (9.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.9 bpg). NC State will be without Devon Daniels who is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
Defensively, NC State is allowing their opponents to average 70.7 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Wolfpack are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 35.7% shooting from beyond the arc.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 6-10 on the season after being defeated by the Duke Blue Devils, 84-60, this past Wednesday. Wake Forest had no answers on either end of the court against Duke and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 45-26 margin. Wake Forest shot just 39.2% from the field and 28.0% from beyond the arc while Duke shot 54.1% from the field and 44.0% from beyond the arc. Wake Forest was outrebounded by Duke by a 37-28 margin and forced just 6 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Demon Deacons was Ody Oguama who had 14 points, 3 rebounds, & 1 block.
On the season, Wake Forest is averaging 69.6 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Demon Deacons are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 35.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wake Forest has been led by Ian DuBose (13.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.6 spg), Daivien Williamson (12.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.4 spg), Isaiah Mucius (10.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg), & Ody Oguama (9.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg).
Defensively, Wake Forest is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Demon Deacons have a rebound margin of 0.3 and a turnover margin of -1.1.
The Wolfpack are 3-7-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Demon Deacons are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
NC State suffered a big blow in their first matchup against Wake Forest as that was the game in which they lost their top-scorer, Devon Daniels, for the season, however, the Wolfpack was still able to pick up a 72-67 victory in that game. NC State has struggled on the road, posting just a 2-5 record, however, the Wolfpack are coming off an impressive road victory against Pittsburgh and between the fact that NC State should be able to find some success against the Demon Deacons 262nd ranked defensive FG% and that Wake Forest just did not look great on either end of the court in their recent loss at Duke, I think the play here is to take NC State and the point. Good Luck!
