The IUPUI Jaguars will travel to the Beeghly Center to take on the Youngstown State Penguins this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The IUPUI Jaguars won their 2nd straight game and improved to 7-8 on the season after defeating the UIC Flames, 88-81, this past Saturday. IUPUI was outstanding offensively against UIC for the 2nd straight game and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 78-68 lead with 3:20 left in regulation. IUPUI shot 57.4% from the field and 45.0% from beyond the arc while UIC shot 43.3% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc. IUPUI committed 16 turnovers, however, did outrebound UIC by a 39-27 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Jaguars was Marcus Burk who had 34 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, & 3 steals.
On the season, IUPUI is averaging 71.1 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Jaguars are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 34.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, IUPUI has been led by Marcus Burk (22.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg), Jaylen Minnett (16.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.1 spg), Elyjah Goss (10.0 ppg, 10.9 rpg), & Mike DePersia (4.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, IUPUI is allowing their opponents to average 75.5 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Jaguars have a rebound margin of -1.9 and a turnover margin of 0.1.
The Youngstown State Penguins won their 5th straight game and improved to 13-10 on the season after defeating the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, 72-70, this past Saturday. Youngstown State struggled offensively against Purdue Fort Wayne, however, made a living at the free-throw line, and held on late after taking a 68-64 lead with 2:04 left in regulation. Youngstown State shot just 38.7% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the arc while Purdue Fort Wayne shot 53.2% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc. Youngstown State outrebounded Purdue Fort Wayne by a 35-31 margin and won the turnover battle by a 15-8 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Penguins was Naz Bohannon who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, & 5 assists.
On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 74.2 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 30.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Youngstown State has been led by Naz Bohannon (16.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.8 apg), Darius Quisenberry (14.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Garrett Covington (11.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.3 spg), & Shemar Rathan-Mayes (10.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, Youngstown State is allowing their opponents to average 72.3 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Penguins have a rebound margin of 2.1 and a turnover margin of 3.2.
The Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games, however, are just 6-14 Ats in their last 20 games following a ATS win. The Penguins are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
IUPUI was able to pick up some impressive wins against UIC, however, it is hard to imagine that their two main scoring threats in Marcus Burk & Jaylen Minnett will continue to shoot the ball like they did in their UIC series in which they combined for 63.0% shooting from the field. Youngstown State is one of the better teams in the Horizon, especially now that they have Darius Quisenberry back from injury, and as the Penguins are a solid 8-4 at home this season, I think Youngstown State does enough in this one to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
