The Green Bay Phoenix will trave to Credit Union 1 Arena to take on the UIC Flames this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Green Bay Phoenix had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-15 on the season after being defeated by the Northern Kentucky Norse, 71-66, this past Saturday. Green Bay struggled defensively against Northern Kentucky and allowed the Norse to take the lead for good after taking a 67-66 lead with just 1:13 left in regulation. Green Bay shot 45.5% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc while Northern Kentucky shot 51.7% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc. Green Bay was outrebounded by Northern Kentucky by a 30-29 margin and forced just 6 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Josh Jefferson who had 26 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist, & 1 steal.
On the season, Green Bay is averaging 71.8 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Green Bay has been led by Amari Davis (17.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.5 spg), Josh Jefferson (15.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.7 apg), PJ Pipes (13.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.1 apg), & Emmanuel Ansong (9.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.1 apg).
Defensively, Green Bay is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 47.8% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc.
The UIC Flames lost their 7th straight game and dropped to 8-11 on the season after being defeated by the IUPUI Jaguars, 88-81, this past Saturday. UIC struggled defensively for the 2nd straight game against Marcus Burk and the Jaguars offense and could not fight back after IUPUI took a 75-65 lead with 4:10 left in regulation. UIC shot 43.3% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc while IUPUI shot 57.4% from the field and 45.0% from beyond the arc. UIC won the turnover battle by a 16-8 margin, however, was outrebounded by the Jaguars by a 39-27 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Flames was Teyvion Kirk who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, & 1 steal.
On the season, UIC is averaging 73.2 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Flames are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 33.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UIC has been led by Teyvion Kirk (14.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.7 apg), Michael Diggins (11.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.0 apg), Maurice Commander (10.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.3 apg), & Braelen Bridges (10.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.0 apg).
Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 73.2 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Flames have a rebound margin of -2.8 and a turnover margin of -2.7.
The Phoenix are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up loss and 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Flames are 1-5 ATS in their last games following a ATS loss and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
UIC is a much better team at home (6-3 record) than on the road this season, however, it is extremely concerning to see how poor the Flames were defensively against a less than average IUPUI team last week. Green Bay has also struggled on the defensive end this season, ranking just 308th in scoring defense & 323rd in defensive FG%, however, the Phoenix have played well since the start of January and as I think their scoring trio of Amari Davis, Josh Jefferson, & PJ Pipes will have plenty of success in this one, I think the play here is to take Green Bay and the points. Good Luck!
