The Samford Bulldogs lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 6-11 on the season after being defeated by the VMI Keydets, 85-56, this past Saturday. Samford had no answers on the offensive end against VMI and could not fight back after the Keydets took a 61-39 lead with 12:39 left in regulation. Samford shot just 30.9% from the field and 17.1% from beyond the arc while VMI shot 42.2% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc. Samford committed just 9 turnovers, however, did lose the rebounding battle by a 52-38 margin in the loss. Staton-McCray (10.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.6 spg), & Preston Parks (7.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Samford is allowing their opponents to average 79.1 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of -1.5.
The Furman Paladins improved to 13-7 on the season after defeating the Western Carolina Catamounts, 88-70, this past Saturday. Furman had their way offensively in the 1st half against Western Carolina and had no trouble securing the victory after going into halftime with a 55-31 lead. Furman shot 49.3% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc while Western Carolina shot 51.0% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc. Furman was outrebounded by Western Carolina by a 34-32 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by an 18-7 margin in the victory. The Bulldogs are 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 games overall and just 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Paladins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Samford has lost 8 of their last 9 games and despite having an offense that can put up some points, their defense has had no answers keeping opponents of the scoreboard as the Bulldogs come into this game ranked just 323rd in scoring defense. Furman is a solid team on both ends of the court and between the fact that their offense can easily put-up 90+ points on this Samford defense and that the Paladins are 9-1 at home this season, I am taking Furman to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
