The Tennessee State Tigers snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 2-6 on the season after defeating the UT-Martin Skyhawks, 74-62, this past Thursday night. Defensively, Tennessee State is allowing their opponents to average 72.9 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Tigers have a rebound margin of -2.2 and a turnover margin of -0.2.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 7-4 on the season after being defeated by the Morehead State Eagles, 56-55, this past Saturday. Jacksonville State struggled getting anything going on the offensive end against Morehead State and could not fight back after the Eagles took a 39-28 lead with 14:48 left in regulation. Jacksonville State shot just 33.3% from the field and 26.1% from beyond the arc while Morehead State shot 40.4% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. Jacksonville State was outrebounded by Morehead State by a 41-35 margin and forced just 11 turnovers in the loss. The Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Gamecocks are 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games.
Jacksonville State might have a 7-4 record, however, I’m not reading too much into that as they have played a very easy schedule which included wins against two non-D1 schools and a 2-game sweep of the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles who are just 1-12 on the season. Tennessee State has really struggled on the road in terms of ATS, however, the Tigers have played better as of late and as I just think these teams are more evenly matched than their records indicate, I think the play here is to take Tennessee State and the points. Good Luck!
