The Purdue Boilermakers snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 8-5 on the season after defeating the 23rd ranked Michigan State Spartans, 55-54, this past Friday. Purdue trailed by 17 points early in the 2nd half, however, the Boilermakers defense was excellent down the stretch and Purdue was able to pull off the victory after a game-winning jumper by Trevion Williams with just 4.5 seconds left in regulation. Purdue shot 33.9% from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc while Michigan State shot 39.0% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the arc. Purdue outrebounded Michigan State by a 37-31 margin and forced 14 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Boilermakers was Trevion Williams who had 26 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, & 1 block.
On the season, Purdue is averaging 70.3 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Boilermakers are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 35.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Purdue has been led by Trevion Williams (15.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.4 apg), Sasha Stefanovic (10.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.5 apg), Eric Hunter Jr. (10.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.2 spg), & Brandon Newman (9.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.9 apg).
Defensively, Purdue is holding their opponents to an average of 66.2 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Boilermakers have a rebound margin of 6.8 and a turnover margin of -1.7.
The Indiana Hoosiers improved to 8-5 on the season after defeating the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 84-76, this past Sunday. Indiana led by a 46-34 margin at halftime and was able to pull away late after taking an 80-75 lead with :45 seconds left in regulation. Indiana shot 46.2% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc while Nebraska shot 45.6% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the arc. Indiana outrebounded Nebraska by a 41-30 margin and committed just 8 turnovers in the victory. Defensively, Indiana is holding their opponents to an average of 66.6 ppg on 41.1% shooting from the field. The Hoosiers have a rebound margin of 0.4 and a turnover margin of 0.7.
The Boilermakers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 Thursday games, however, just 5-12-3 ATS in their last 20 road games. The Hoosiers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Purdue is just 1-3 in their last 4 road games, however, they were competitive against some tough teams in Rutgers & Illinois and has been solid defensively this season as they come into this game ranked 83rd in scoring defense & 44th in rebound margin. Indiana is nothing more than an average team that can struggle scoring as they don’t provide much of a threat from beyond the arc and as I think Purdue comes into this game with a bunch of momentum after defeating Michigan State on the road, I think the Boilermakers do enough with the points to cover in this one. Good Luck!
