Morgan State (15-16) at Bethune-Cookman 16-14)
College Basketball: Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 6:00 pm (Norfolk Scope Arena)
The Line: Bethune-Cookman -2.5 -- Over/Under: 144
The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (16-14, CONF 10-6) and Morgan State Bears (15-16, CONF 9-7) face off in the MEAC Tournament on Thursday at the Norfolk Scope. Bethune-Cookman beat Morgan State 85-78 earlier this season.
Morgan State can move to .500 with a win in this game, but they have struggled as of late, losing two games in a row and four of the last six games.
Over the last five games the Bears are averaging 70.4 points per game while the defense is giving up 70.8 points per game. Morgan State is led by guard Stanley Davis who is averaging 13.7 points per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the field.
In each of the last two games, Davis has put up 14 points but he has gone 0-4 from deep, and hitting a couple of three pointers could be huge.
Bethune-Cookman have been playing good basketball as of late, and over the last four games they have three wins. Over the last five games, the Wildcats are averaging 71.6 points per game while the defense is giving up 66.2 points.
Bethune-Cookman is led by guard Isaiah Bailey who is averaging 15.2 points while shooting 43.1 percent from the field.
As good as Bailey has been he is coming off a game where he scored only eight points, and they need him to be a lot better.
In the last game it was forward Cletrell Pope who led the way for Bethune-Cookman putting up 20 points and 16 rebounds. The last month Pope has been playing better, and he could end up being the x-factor, deciding if Bethune-Cookman can come away with a win.
Morgan State is 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games overall. The under is 10-1 in Bethune-Cookman’s last 11 games overall.
Morgan State has had issues covering spreads coming into this game and it’s going to continue in this game. Look for the Bears to struggle with their defense and that will be enough for Bethune-Cookman to win the game and cover the spread. This one shouldn't be all that close, and no sweat should be involved with cashing this ticket.
