Manhattan (12-17) at Fairfield (12-19)
College Basketball: Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm (Boardwalk Hall)
The Line: Fairfield +1 -- Over/Under: 116.5
The Manhattan Jaspers (12-17, CONF 8-12) and Fairfield Stags (12-19, CONF 6-12) face off in the first round of the MAAC tournament. Fairfield won both games over Manhattan this season, and they also covered each of the spreads.
Manhattan has had all kinds of issues as of late and coming into this game they have lost seven of their last eight games. Each one of those seven losses, the Jaspers also failed to cover the spread. Manhattan isn’t a great offensive team and over the last five games they are averaging only 58 points while the defense is giving up 66 points.
Manhattan is led by Pauly Paulicap and Tykei Greene who are both averaging right around 10 points per game.
In Manhattan’s last game against Fairfield the offense really struggled scoring only 50 points and that led to the loss. Manhattan needs to find a way to get some offense going, or they will lose this game.
Fairfield is also having some issues losing four of the last five games, with the win coming in their last game against Manhattan.
Much like Fairfield, Manhattan isn’t a strong offensive team averaging only 58.5 points per game while shooting 39.4 percent from the field.
Fairfield is led by Landon Taliaferro who is averaging 12.3 points while shooting 36.2 percent from the field. Against Manhattan in the last game, Fairfield was paced by Jesus Cruz who put up 21 points. Taliaferro also added 19 points, and there has to be some confidence with the offense coming into this game.
Manhattan is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games overall. The under is 21-5-1 in Manhattan’s last 27 neutral site games. The under is 40-12 in Fairfield’s last 52 games. The under is 24-9-1 in Fairfield’s last 34 neutral site games. The under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings between Fairfield and Manhattan.
Manhattan and Fairfield are both teams who aren’t elite on offense and that will continue in this game. Look for a slower-paced game with very little scoring happening. Back the under to cash with ease.
