The Sacred Heart Pioneers will travel to DeGol Arena to take on the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash this Saturday afternoon in the Semifinals of the Northeast Men’s Conference Tournament.
The 3-seed Sacred Heart Pioneers improved to 20-12 on the season after defeating the 6-seed Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers, 61-59, this past Wednesday. In a tight game late, Scared Heart was able to avoid the upset after a Jare’l Spellman putback with 1.6 seconds left in regulation gave the Pioneers the victory. Sacred Heart shot just 37.1% from the field, however, outrebounded the Mountaineers by a 47-23 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Pioneers was E.J. Anosike who had a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Sacred Heart is averaging 73.4 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Pioneers are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Sacred Heart has been led by E.J. Anosike (15.9 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Koreem Ozier (13.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg), and Kinnon LaRose (10.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.2 apg).
Defensively, Sacred Heart is allowing their opponents to average 69.0 ppg on 41.1% shooting from the field. The Pioneers have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of -2.8.
The 2-seed St. Francis (PA) Red Flash kept their NCAA Tournament dreams alive after defeating the 7-seed Bryant Bulldogs, 87-61, this past Wednesday. St. Francis (PA) had no trouble taking care of business against the Bulldogs and never looked back after starting off the game on a 9-0 run. St. Francis (PA) shot 57.1% from the field while holding Bryant to just 33.8% shooting from the field and 25.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Red Flash was Keith Braxton who had 24 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assits, and 4 steals.
On the season, St. Francis (PA) is averaging 77.8 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Red Flash are averaging 6.5 three-pointers per game on 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, St. Francis (PA) has been led by Isaiah Blackmon (18.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.7 spg), Keith Braxton (17.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.4 spg), and Myles Thompson (10.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg).
Defensively, St. Francis (PA) is allowing their opponents to average 71.6 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Red Flash have a rebound margin of 3.5 and a turnover margin of 1.6.
The Pioneers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games and 10-7 ATS on the road this season. The Red Flash are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games and 7-1 SU in their last 8 games when playing at home against Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart comes into this game ranked T-110th in scoring offense, 163rd in scoring defense, and 75th in defensive FG%.
St. Francis (PA) has been led by their offense which comes into this match-up ranked 27th in scoring offense, 44th in FG%, and 38th in 3P-FG%.
Sacred Heart has had an outstanding season, however, it was a bit concerning to see the offense struggle at home in their near loss against Mount St. Mary’s. St. Francis (PA) has won 9 of their last 10 games and defeated Sacred Heart in both their regular season match-ups which included a 72-65 victory at home. St. Francis (PA) has one of the best offenses in the Northeast Conference and as the Red Flash have an impressive 12-2 record at home, I think the Red Flash do just enough to cover this mid-range spread. Good Luck!
