The UMass Minutemen (13-16, CONF 7-9) and La Salle Explorers (14-14, CONF 5-11) face off in an Atlantic 10 showdown at the Tom Gola Arena. UMass beat La Salle 77-69 earlier this season.
UMass is coming off a loss against Richmond but before that game they had won three games in a row and covered three spreads in a row. Away from home this season UMass has a 2-9 record and the biggest issue has been the defense that is giving up 78.4 points per game. The offense on the road for UMass also hasn’t been great averaging 63.7 points.
UMass overall this season is averaging only 68.5 points per game so to have success the defense needs to be good.
UMass has a star on their hands with center Tre Mitchell who is averaging 16.9 points while shooting 47.2 percent from the field.
La Salle comes into this game having won three of the last four games with the loss coming against Davidson. In that game against Davidson, La Salle only managed 49 points and that led to a blowout loss.
At home La Salle has an 8-6 record but the stats aren’t all that impressive with the offense averaging only 68.1 points.
La Salle doesn’t really have a star but they do have three players that are averaging right around ten points per game.
One thing to watch in this game is if Scott Spencer will be able to go for La Salle as he deals with an upper-body injury.
The under is 7-1 in UMass’s last eight games overall. The under is 7-1 in UMass’s last eight games as an underdog. The over is 6-2 in La Salle’s last eight home games. The under is 9-4 in La Salle’s last 13 road games.
The home team is 7-2 in the last nine meetings played between UMass and La Salle.
UMass has struggled away from home, and it’s going to continue in this game. Look for UMass’s defense to struggle and that will be enough for La Salle to win the game and cover the spread.
Shane’s Pick La Salle -3
